Frequently Asked
Questions

  • What is a fiberglass pool?

A fiberglass pool is a one-piece pool shell manufactured in a factory from fiberglass-reinforced polymer, then transported and installed as a single unit. Unlike concrete or vinyl liner pools, the shell arrives pre-formed and is set into an excavated site, typically within one to three days.

  • How long does a fiberglass pool installation take?

Most fiberglass pool installations are completed in three to seven days once excavation begins. The total project timeline, including permits, site prep, decking, and landscaping, typically runs four to eight weeks depending on your municipality and contractor schedule.

  • How long do fiberglass pools last?

A fiberglass pool shell is designed to last 25 to 50 years or more. The gel coat surface does not require replacement like a vinyl liner and goes significantly longer between resurfacings than a concrete plaster finish.

  • Are fiberglass pools cheaper than concrete pools?

Yes, both upfront and over time. Fiberglass pools generally cost less to install than concrete, and ongoing costs are substantially lower. Fiberglass requires fewer chemicals, less frequent resurfacing than concrete, and less maintenance year over year.

  • What are the disadvantages of fiberglass pools?

The main limitations are size and shape. Because fiberglass pools are manufactured as a single shell, they are constrained by what can be transported on a flatbed truck, typically limiting widths to around 16 feet.

  • What sizes do fiberglass pools come in?

Our fiberglass pools range from compact plunge pools under 14 feet long to larger family pools exceeding 30 feet. Width typically ranges from 7 to 14 feet.

  • What is the difference between a fiberglass pool and a vinyl liner pool?

A vinyl liner pool has a steel or polymer frame with a replaceable liner stretched over it. A fiberglass pool is a solid, one-piece shell with no liner. Vinyl liners typically need replacement every 8 to 12 years at a cost of several thousand dollars. Fiberglass has no liner to replace and the surface is more resistant to algae and puncture.

  • Do fiberglass pools have tiles?

Standard fiberglass pools do not include tile. Some manufacturers will apply an after-market adhesive tile. PENTARM offers factory-integrated porcelain tile on the waterline as a product line feature. PENTARM's Mosaic Collection pools are manufactured with recessed tile molds and 9-inch factory-applied porcelain waterline tile, engineered to hold under freeze-thaw conditions using industrial-grade hydraulic mortar.
